Swiss watches hit record exports

Bienne, Switzerland - Swiss watch and clock exports came to a record 1.263 billion francs (840 million euros, 1.12 billion dollars) in November, up 12.3 percent from the same month last year, the industry said in a statement Tuesday.

Exports for the first 11 months of the year topped 10 billion francs for the first time, reaching 10.1 billion francs, up 9.8

percent on the same period of 2003, the industry federation said.

The sector appeared headed toward a record year in 2004, eclipsing the 10.65 billion francs recorded in 2001.

The previous monthly export record was set in October this year, 1.198 billion francs.
