SIHH 2009 Preview: Cartier Haute Horlogerie Santos 100 Squelette

At the 2009 edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, Cartier will unveil a stunning, limited edition Santos timepiece.  Presented in palladium--a brilliant white metal in the platinum family--the Cartier Haute Horlogerie Santos 100 Squelette watch showcases an open-worked mechanical movement whose immaculately beveled bridges also serve as a uniquely transparent Roman numeral dial.

Designated as the Cartier 9611MC, this hand-wound caliber has a 72-hour power reserve.  The balance wheel, which can be clearly seen pulsing at the 7:30 position, completes 28,800 semi-alternations per hour.  The Haute HOrlogerie Santos 100 Squelette watch also features a sapphire crystal window on its back, allowing the viewer to observe the reverse side of the 9611MC caliber with its finely finished keyless works.

Engraved on each movement is an individual number.  The Cartier Haute Horlogerie Santos 100 Squelette watch measures 46.5 x 55 millimeters and displays a subtle brushed finish that is contrasted by polished surfaces on the case edges and screw-decorated Santos bezel.  The faceted palladium crown is set with a sapphire cabochon.   A strap in alligator leather completes the ensemble.
