When the other kids played footie...
...I was stuck in front of the local watch store. Always loved watches. My father gave my a quartz Certina as my first watch, moved on to Swatch when it was popular in early 1980s (still have a few NOS laying around). Admittedly, been through my fair share of fake Rolex's as well. Wore a fake Submariner until I was 18 or so.
I never had the money to buy a quality Swiss watch until I entered advertising on higher level than "junior" level and to celebrate a particulary successfull campaign I made for German cleaning products "Sofix" (sexy, huh??), I decided to treat myself with the Tudor. This was in the early days of Interenet trading and ergo the interest for good watches grew everytime I swtched on the computer. I paid $1050 for the Tudor and $1300 for the 5513 Rolex Sub.
However, COLLECTING watches – meaning actually KEEPING the darlings didn't start until I turned 28 or so – I am 36 now. Never was wealthy enough to have money stuck in watches. Not that I am wealthy now in ANY way, but I have different priorities in life – read: I am officially an old fart – and collecting became more fun than flipping!
