. The Best of Time Rolex Wristwatch (James Dowling) An Unauthorized History . Rolex Collecting Modern & Vintage Watches (Oswaldo Patrizzi) Guido Mondani
. Submariner (Guido Mondani) Guido Mondani
. Rolex Chronographes 'La Legenda' (In Italian - Pucci Papaleo)
. Vintage Rolex Sports models (Skeet & Urul) Shifferbooks
. Rolex (Gordon) 2 books published in 1988 - I think only available from private parties.
. Rolex (Evance Edition) - A limited edition, I think only available from private parties.

Most of the above publications are kept regularly up to date
At times you will find that some models shown can be questioned, but in reading a variety of books, you will soon acquire an overall knowledge of all modern & vintage pieces. You will also gather the brand history, including some confidential information which often is not confirmed. But to acquire a strong base information those books are a must have.

Many fantastic publications/magazines from Japan are available, only they are only good for images as I cannot read Japanese

In each country worldwide the topic of watches is well covered by publication and magazines.

A good gathering of information about watches can be obtained by purchasing what is most known as 'Year Book'.
Each editor of a watch magazine has a 'Year book' which covers the brands and the watches for a specific year. Usually you will find that the information is paramount specially when going back to them a few years later.

All you need is finding out who has a monthly run publication.

Example: International Watch, l'Heure, Chrono, Urhen, Orologio da Polso and many many more.

Patek Philippe Vol 1 & Vol 2 by Oswaldo Patrizzi Collecting Watches - Guido Mondani
They are rich in photos, and they come in 3 languages (French / Italian / English). It is sold bundled with a guidance to 'how much for each models'. The author & editor have been maintaining the 2 volumes up to date since their first edition.

Another source for valuable information of fine time pieces is ‘auctions' books’. Antiquorum, Sothebys, Christies, publish some amassing information of their related auctions. Often written by experts, Vintage and Modern timepieces are fully detailed.
If you accumulate those books, you will find that over the years you would have an encyclopaedia on the topic, but what’s important ‘valuable references on many watches’ models.
Specifically IW's 2005 " Grand Complications "

The first one, I own, but you have to love Chronographs. It's a huge book, loaded with details and pictures. 80$ us is the going rate I believe.

The second, I did not buy, but I pretty much read it cover to cover in a rainy afternoon at borders..

Chronograph Wristwatches To Stop Time
Gerd-R Lang & Reinhard Meis.

Timepieces: Masterpieces of Chronometry
David Christianson

This second book is both watches and clocks, and their impact on history, science and technology. Probably more for a clock guy, but it covers watches as well. 25 bucks US.

You can find either book typically online, or just pickup a copy of International Wristwatch, I think they have a tear out section where you can order both of them.
