I always questioned the same thing Scott, but then later on with exposure to some pieces I "think" I figured it out. There is something to be said about owning an understated & stealth (usually SE/LE) piece & not advertise it to everyone like with rose/gold piece. Also upon closer inspection you'll usually notice the dead giveaways: that heft(which I LOVE), usually exclusive & more unique dial designs(like PAM140/180 CF dial that doesn't appear nowhere else), the silverish hue seems more dense (and is usually confirmed with those present WG & Pt950 markings). Besides if you can afford it they usually end up being a real deal collectables with long run potential.
