1842, Jean Adrien Philippe, a French watchmaker (For Patek), invents the keyless winding mechanism.
This invention enables to noticeably improve the regulating behavior of the watch, modernization, innovation related to the manufactoring processes.
The inventor, presented a thin pocket watch that could be wound and set at the stem with a winding crown. The following year Patek hired Philippe and split up with Czapek, and in 1851, Patek changed the firm's name to Patek Philippe & Co.
