Tests for each Fine Watch >
1. Of course and without a doubt ‘fine watches’ should be tested prior to reach the wrists of public. The value of those ‘fine watches’ are comparable to the price of a bike, a car, a house, even reaching at time the price of a village somewhere all of which is legislated.
2. I have always compared the horology industry to the car industry. I see that the car industry is constantly being scrutinized and legislated. I do trust the manufacture abilities to provide and supply a fine watch! But over the years, we had radium and tritium, in some watches made in stainless steel it was found that they contained a percentage of other alloys, movements reacting terribly to known outside activities, Imperfections of assembly, Imprecision of time.
A universal standard should be set and run by the manufacture this to ensure first that manufactured product meets with minimum set requirements up-to-date. And a universal organization(s) to receive and further test the Fine Watch.
I would love to see all tests to be carried out on each watch as opposed to one very so much of the production.
3. Strength and durability of the watch-case
Accuracy of the movement
Cleanliness of the assembly
Action and reaction of the watch in known variations of temperature and activities
Hazard free for the environment (to include new materials)
I would also love our fine watches to be re-tested and regulated after transiting; this to ensure that it meets with the announced tolerances.
An open report by the manufacturer of known faults to be reported and made good for all others.
Come-on, we are paying a high price for this fine watch, it is time that the industry realizes that it must meet a standard that matches our today's way of life.
It is good to enlarge a watch-case because of some analysis proving that our society is bigger and last longer, but it would be terrific if our fine watches could live up to their claims and to the set tolerances before sitting on our wrist!
My 2 Swiss francs.
