... you got it almost right ;o)
the 'splash' did not break the record for channel-crossing by an amphibious car (that one stands at about 45 minutes or so) ... i mean, puhleese, i could swim the channel in the 3 hours the rinspeed took :o)
however, the splash was poised to break the record but got hit so hard by a wave a few minutes into the trip that there was some sort of mechanical failure and the poor thing basically limped to the finish line, hence the weak performance. the reason why it still set a record as because it is the first amphibious car that works on the wing-principle. probably there will be another serious attempt to beat the overall record sometime soon.
