Sadly, no..
I've tried to like cars, but they just don't have any appeal to me. The last car I loved, was my first car, many, many years ago, late 70's as a matter of fact. A 68 4 door T-bird, kamikazee doors, sequential tail lights. Black on Black, but that car left me hi and dry quite often, so I realized loving a car is like loving a dog that chases cars.. Sooner or later, you're going to get hurt.
I used to follow stereo equipment in my younger days, and recently decided to actually buy a nice big TV, and a home theater... Now, I sit there and watch movies, and constantly think to myself.. Damn it, with this money, I could have bought a few more watches. Is it raining outside, or is that the movie? Surround speakers, yikes!
I bought a decent high end digital camera, my pictures suck, I could have stuck with the Kodak, hell, I should stick with the original Kodak, the kind with a square rotating light bulb on top.
So, it's money for my daughters, and watches. That's it, Oh, I'll drop some money on outdoor equipment, like tents, jackets, and climbing gear, but it's nothing even close to the love of watches.
I have other hobbies, but they are all sports related, running, basketball, hiking/climbing... But those are activities involving sweat, effort, and determination, not money..
I guess in some ways, I've always felt a little outside the norm when it comes to watches, the magazines constantly try to tie cars, pens, and other high end items to watches, but it's completely lost on me.
I've got a shelf full of single malt scotch (all gifts, I would never spend that kind of money on a bottle of liquor for myself), but I prefer an ice cold beer from a tap. My humidor is full of cigars, like the scotch, all gifts, but there is something special about a swisher sweet wooden tip cigar on a winter night..
If you see a guy wearing a Metallica T-shirt and an AP Royal Oak on his wrist, please, say hi, chat with me awhile about watches, heck, I'll buy you a beer! (maybe even one in a bottle!) ;-)
