Well this depends on what his connection to the history of panerai is and his understanding of the different era's etc...
Assuming since he is your buddy he has a head start over most "newbie's" than he may already have seen quite a variety of different style's and dials with both the T & L etc....
So making the assumption that he knows the difference and since you did not state a preference in dial materials, or his preference in say bases vs complications etc...or his preference for size 44, 45, 47...you have left a lot to be assumed here...
I would stick to the basics that he can easily sell if he decides he wants to change later..
Of course he has to buy these right in order to sell them easily...
