Please, this topic chills me..
I love mechanical watches, always have since as long as I can remember.
HOWEVER, the obsession of accuracy, is lost on me now, for, as a young child, I was subjected to it way too often.
My dad was a clock guy, god rest his soul, he loved them, and nightly, he would make me sit with him as he listened to a time cube (do they still even make that I wonder?). A little device with an antennae that would pick up the universal time signal from boulder colorado. Oh, that man's voice..
At the tone, the time will be, 19 hours, 29 minutes coordinated universal time..
BEEEEEEPP
Then he would set all his clocks, and write down the variance, and tell me.. The GF clock is running a little fast, put the gloves on, and twist the adjustment 1/16th of turn, what the heck is 1/16 of a turn? :-)
I now have one of those automatic setting digital clocks, it probably get the signal from the same place that time cube did! Once every few weeks I make sure that what I'm wearing is not way off, otherwise, if the second hand is moving and there is no moisture inside the crystal, I'm a happer camper..
However, I would give a great deal to have just one more of those nights with him.
