True it is very sad that Rolex doesn't offer the appropriate (authentication, service, etc) support for their vintage collectors, but after all they are just like most companies a money making machine so selling their current models is a priority. Although I heard some potential rumors there might be some interesting announcements from them about actual creation of Heritage divisions worldwide to address at least part of that problem.
As for all those "know it all" on the forums I don't really care much what they say because I realized a while ago that the only "good proper vintage Rolex's" are those that they have in their collection which are destined for future sale (nothing new just the usual BJ shilling right ;-) )
I also realized myself that I will never have a significant vintage Rolex collection for 2 very important reasons to me: they are way overpriced for what they are (both their horological merit, their actual real world rarity, as well the obligatory level of authenticity manipulation offered in this realm) secondly I found that although vintage Rolex are really nice to own a collection of them I would be sacrificing on the potential to enjoy so many other more horologically interesting specimens out there (chalk that up to my personal growth in demanding something more them military sports heritage ;-) ).
