Perhaps Rolex Oyster was the first patented waterproof wristwatch (1926), but waterproof pocket watches were already made by the end of the 19th century. In 1896 Frenchman Henri Guye submits a patent for a watch, whose critical elements with seals were protected against water (Feb 24). At the same time Vacheron Constantin works likewise on a waterproof watch, which was introduced to the public in the subsequent year under the designation “Imperator”.
