as the topic of when is LE a truly a real LE comes to

mind especially these days when everyone & their mother tries to market "luxury" & "exclusivity" in a from of yet another "very limited opportunity" to own this "very special timepiece".  It is sometimes very difficult to distinguish through the fog of marketing & hype as to truly value the intrinsic value of such timepiece.  As you, I as well have been faced with same issues, as I am looking at many other brands with currently I am out still not in the comfort zone to make that knowledgeable distinction.  Buying what you like & what speaks to you can indeed be a costly mistake especially when you are looking upwards in the horology markets (talking a bit higher end pieces here) especially when its not a long term commitment (as it many times the case in our fickle world of collecting),  but rather just a flavor of the month/week/day.  You made a great point in saying that "The only way is to really get to know a brand, get to now what makes a brand special, what is it that is unique about it and why do people care".  In addition I would also add that if you do not buy the piece properly (i.e. industry standard discount, motivated seller, etc) you may very well expected to be burned when times comes to part way for whatever reason that may be.  I think that understanding the true value of the brand, their past history and their managements path into future is determental in this decision as well, cause this in turn will affect the way we all perceive & value the said timepieces in current & future moment in time.

That all being said I find all this new discovery to be a learning experience still an enormously fun process which is quite enjoyable growth in my personal opinion & tastes.  The only difference is that I don't act on my impulses as overtly or immediately to jump in & buy.  This probably is a good thing not only for the stated reasons above, but as well for the true appreciation of the timepieces I am considering for long term.  Who knows though in the end perhaps this is the result of maturation even in fickle world of collecting watches ;-)
