my problems with most (current) LE's is that they're announced as LE's. At that point, every Tom, Dick, and harry (people like me!), say 'it's limited...I gotta have one!'. It's marketing only in many cases.
The best (to me) LE's are those that didn't necessarily start out that way. This may be a watch that was intended to be regular production but for some reason the manufacturer had to stop production (part shortage, etc.) or perhaps needed to modify the design. These watches then become today's 'limited editions', even though they didn't start off that way. They not limited editions, they're just LIMITED. And, seemingly, treasured by collectors because what makes them special is the fact that you needed to really know something, or be very lucky, to have found that needle in the haystack in the first place.
just my 2c (in euros, I guess about 1.4c)
