This dial layout was mostly used by the famous Rolex from back in the 20's!

A few of 1920's advertising campaigns of Rolex are showing a variety of cushion shaped watches and others with the 'California Dial'. 

There after other brands like Vacheron, Longines, Panerai, Movado and others used that configuration.
